In 1988 the Giants began play and stabilized what had been a series of minor league franchises that had occupied Municipal Stadium for 40 years. From the San Jose Expos and Missions to the infamous “Bad News” Bees, there were eight former clubs between 1942 and 1987 and nine major league affiliations.

Since the San Jose Giants started play they have been a dominant force in the California League, having won seven league titles, most recently in 2021. The team has also had a role in developing 190 big leaguers, including some of today’s biggest stars from Madison Bumgarner, Pablo Sandoval, Matt cain, Tim Lincecum and many of the San Francisco Giants players who contributed to the 2010-2014 championship years.
