Tech CU Arena

Tech CU Arena is a 4,200-seat indoor arena in San Jose, California. The arena sits within the Sharks Ice at San Jose complex and serves as the primary home of the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Sharks Sports & Entertainment developed the arena to give the Barracuda a dedicated home and to expand the organization’s practice and community ice facilities. City of San Jose officials approved the project in January 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic soon delayed construction and disrupted AHL operations during the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons.

The arena opened in 2022, ahead of the 2022–23 AHL season. The Barracuda moved from SAP Center to Tech CU Arena, ending their tenure as one of the few AHL teams sharing an arena with their NHL parent club. The smaller venue allowed the team to operate in a space designed specifically for minor league hockey.

Tech CU Arena includes modern locker rooms, training areas, and support spaces integrated into the Sharks Ice complex. The design places player development, team operations, and fan experience in close proximity.

In March 2022, Technology Credit Union purchased the arena’s naming rights, formally branding the venue as Tech CU Arena. The agreement aligned the facility with a local financial institution and reinforced the arena’s role as a community-centered sports venue.

In 2024, Tech CU Arena hosted the AHL All-Star Classic, bringing a league showcase event to San Jose. The event highlighted the arena’s capabilities and confirmed its place as a key site within the AHL.

Today, Tech CU Arena functions as the full-time home of the San Jose Barracuda and as a central component of the San Jose Sharks’ player development system. The arena also supports youth hockey, public skating, and regional ice sports through its connection to the broader Sharks Ice facility.
