In 2009 the California Redwoods played one of their three home games at Spartan Stadium as part of the second-tier United Football League. After initially playing at San Francisco’s AT&T Park the team moved to Spartan Stadium in San Jose due to low attendance and conflicts with the San Francisco Giants.
On Saturday, November 14, 2009 the California Redwoods hosted the Las Vegas Locomotives losing 16-10 in front of 4,312 sold seats. The team finished the season 2-4 and moved to Sacramento, rebranding as the Mountain Lions. The team folded in 2012 with the league.
