San Jose Arena, 1996-97 Season
The 1996-97 season brought renovations to the Oakland Coliseum Arena where the Warriors played at the time. So the San Jose Arena was made their temporary home.
The Warriors finished the season in 10th place in the Western Conference with a 30-52 record behind coach Rick Adelman. Lattrell Sprewell led the team in scoring and was selected as an All Star. A young Joe Smith and veterans Chris Mullin and Mark Price also contributed that season.
San Jose Civic Auditorium, 1964-1967 Seasons
From Feb 6, 1964 through January 13, 1967, the San Francisco Warriors played a few games a season at the San Jose Civic Auditorium. They’re “home” court was the San Francisco Civic Auditorium but the team played games all over California and even in other states. In that 1960s timeframe Warriors’ legends like Wilt Chamberlain, Rick Barry, Al Attles and others played in San José.
On February 9, 1965, the San Francisco Warriors hosted the recently traded Wilt Chamberlain and the Philadelphia 76’ers at the San Jose Civic Auditorium.
Wilt Chamberlain, whom the Madera Tribune referred to as “The Big Dipper,” put up 33 points that night as the Warriors fell 132-114 to their former superstar.
Connie Dierking, of the Warriors, put up an admirable 30 points.
