San Jose Bees

The San Jose Bees refers to three baseball teams that played in San Jose, California. The first team played from 1929 to 1934, the second from 1962 to 1976 and the final club from 1983 to 1987.

1983-1987 Bees

The last edition of the San Jose Bees was the most well known, or notorious, team to ever play in San Jose and maybe in baseball. The 1986 “Bad News Bees” were a team of never-will-bes, MLB lost souls and Japanese professionals, which made for a dramatic dynamic.

1962-1976 Bees

The second edition of the Bees was a stable minor league operation for more than a decade, with affiliations to the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals they turned out players that included George Brett and Frank White.

1929-1934 Bees

The first San Jose team to wear the Bees name was established in 1929 as part of the California State League. They are most notable for hosting the Philadelphia Athletics on a barnstorming tour the fall after their 1929 World Series championship.
